About Us
Barcelona is an independent magazine for readers who would rather understand a story than simply hear about it.
Informed, sophisticated, precise
We started in a single room off the Passeig de Gràcia with three writers and a conviction that the slow story still had a readership. Twenty-six years later that room is a newsroom of forty-one people across six bureaus, and the conviction has not changed.
Every feature we publish is reported first-hand and checked by someone who did not write it. We take no equity from the companies we cover, we label every commercial partnership in plain language, and our subscribers — not advertisers — fund the majority of what we do.
What We Stand For
Independence
No investor, advertiser or subject reads a story before publication. Corrections run in the same place as the original.
Verification
Two named sources or a document. Our fact-checkers hold the final word on whether a piece ships.
Proximity
We report from where the story is. No bureau covers a region it has never visited.
